Yes, Patrick, I have noted your comment on the forum, and have taken action!
It's been a long time, but we are back.
The photo shows the new lighting on platform 1, taken in February. Platform 2 is now under way, and photos will be available soon.
Sadly, Patrick is currently unable to help at the station, due to his back giving him a painful time - get well soon Patrick, we need you!
In the 'interregnum' of no posts, a load of work has been done.
- construct, paint and put into use three new station benches
- repair and repaint six station benches, including rebuild of one all-timber bench
- complete stripping and repainting of all railings on platform 1 and platform s, 2.5 years in total
- commission new lighting on platform 1 and safely remove old concrete lamp posts
- install six new lamp posts on platform 2, and recently completed luminaires - just need connecting up
- complete remodelling and redecoration of the booking office
- replace door locks on buffet
- construct new manhole and fat trap in buffet drain
- construct and erect new noticeboards and direction signs
- replace stop cocks to carriage watering hoses and replace damaged hose
- repair treads on footbridge which had started to lift
- erect new fence at top of donkey gallop, as a safety measure
- dismantle and remove old caravan and relocate tent, to release more car park space
- construct new foot crossing at south end of platform 2, across the yard, for controlled use on busy days
- construct new fencing and gates at north end of station near boiler shop crossing, site now much tidier and visitor safety improved
- replace defective water heater in gents
- replace defective space heater in gents
- manufacture and install new coving in booking office ceiling
- countless minor jobs including unblocking drains, replacing broken toilet seats, clearing, tidying, painting, replacing bulbs and tubes, improvements to pathways and kerbs, constructing proper supports and painting the main gas supply pipe, painting and rust proofing the mpd compressed air receiver and associated pipework, deep cleaning platform waiting room, mend broken windows, gardening...
next on the list is
- complete new lighting on platform 2
- erect and commission new lights on main station building and replace lights beneath canopy
- resheet the corrugated roof over the lean-to building which contains the telephone exchange and shop store
- redecorate the porch once the dry rot works are complete
- repaint platform edge white lines
- construct new signs for station entrance to replace life expired ones
- rebuild footways around from of station to eliminate dips, construct speed bumps outside station entrance, rearrange vehicle flow to prevent vehicles passing within inches of the station doors..
