loco yard on Saturday

Intrepid trio Adam, Richard and Chris started off preparing axle ends of 1501, 813, 6634, 5164 and Warwickshire for ultrasound testing; scraping off the hard crud and cleaning the metal surface up to the required standard.

General cleaning of 5164, 42968 and 4566 was carried out throughout the day by Richard and Chris, along with Oli and Adrian, which resulted in a gleaming brass safety dome cover on 4566.

In the late morning and afternoon Adam was in his favourite place sandblasting cleaning up the two brass whistles belong to 2857 Churchward class, ready for fitting.

Another gang of volunteers was doing work on Taw Valley's tender, including works on the chassis.

Throughout the day work went on with the newly acquired steam cleaner, blasting stubborn dirt off connecting rods belonging to 1501 and other copper piping.
