August in the WWCC wk2

reporting 13 August
Today Colin (The Fireman) and I inspected the new concrete floor in the end room store. It was decided that a few more days would be required before we all people in; consequently we have left it locked until next Tuesday. We must tell them to 'mind the step'.
Later in the morning, Colin successfully dealt with a water leak on the underground pipework which feeds the floral arrangements. I am sure Mrs Malyon will be very pleased.
Peter (The Painter) spend most of the morning working on the finishing coat of white gloss on the 'new' booking hall entrance window. His last effort was to apply a finish coat to the target for the new security gate into the yard.
Meanwhile I continued preparing more timber, in order that we can eventually 'knock up' [craft] the remaining four waste bin surrounds. As a matter of interest, apparently our design has been put forward to staff at the North Yorks Moors Railway. So just maybe our design technology may be spreading to other railway establishments. I know it's not global, but we all have to start somewhere.
Blair Chisholm has bent four lumps of steel bar to allow another lamp to be attached to the station building, after they have received suitable paint treatment.
Chris (The Shunter/ASM/Director) has applied a further top coat to the lamp which was awaiting the steel brackets.
This afternoon, Colin and I have finished repairing the concrete slope at the base of the wall at the entrance to the yard. My only worry is that the local glitterati may try to adopt this area for their skateboarding activities. Let's hope not; I don't want any blood on our large concrete slab in front of the new security gate.
Phil (The GPO) has welded five lengths of boiler tube to create a safety rail for the accommodation coach B, which is required by Elf and Safetea, to prevent the residents from falling from the top of the steps in times of emergency or any other alcohol related incapacity. This construction has already received a coat of red oxide primer, prior to its final black top coat.
Finally, the 82045 boys will be using our 110v supply this week to drill more than 140 holes in the frames to fit more components; just another example of inter-departmental co-operation.
My latest 'Elf and Safetea' sign has been very well received, especially by our many visitors who come by coach. I have to say many have gone away with a smile on their faces, not to mention a photograph on their cameras and mobile phones. As the show business adage says, always leave 'em laughing ... boom boom ...

Today we have had a most productive day, with the following having been achieved:
Another waste bin surround is 75% finished and Fenceguarded; it now only requires the top edging and a door to be complete, leaving only three more to make - unless they are mating out of sight of the public - who knows?
The new 'Tickets and Trains' board has received a first top coat of black gloss. The front was painted by Brian (The Pattern Shop Gnome), the coat on the back being applied by yours truly later in the afternoon. The Gnome says he will start the white top coating round the framing on Saturday. I can hardly wait, but we all have our little cross in life to bear...
The new coach B fire exit guard rail has had two top coats of black gloss applied, the first by Adam (The Boy), and the second again by yours truly. No wonder I got made redundant on the Forth Bridge (joke)...
New digilock supplied and fitted with help from Adam to accommodation coach B. An aide memoire as to its future use was applied to the coach side next to the door, just to save it being abused in the future.
Colin (The Fireman) and Alan (Severn Trent) spent the day locating a serious leak in the main outside the pattern shop. Unfortunately they were unable to cure the problem, but the leak was located to allow outside contractors to repair it tomorrow. Hopefully our efforts will save on the contractor's invoice - well we can hope, can't we?
Alan (The Cricket) continued to dismantle pallets for the waste bin surround production.
Later Alan spent some time screwing down the steel mesh on the footbridge, which had started to rise, causing a possible trip hazard. Contrary to popular belief, the WWCC does do 'Elf and Safetea'.
My new Elf and Safetea board outside our office continues to be very well received by the public.
Finally the 82045 boys have been supplied with a 110v supply to enable them to drill the frames to attach the newly constructed smokebox saddle. Just another example of inter-departmental co-operation ... nice.
