Q&A Saturday 21 August
A Q&A session was held at the KRM at 7.15.
Mainly intended to discuss the present financial situation, other subjects were also discussed.
Of particular interest to Bridgnorth:
1. The recession has truly hit; in the first six months of the year, passenger carryings were 13% down. This represents a big dip in revenue - cost savings are no longer optional.
2. There will be no trains to/from Bridgnorth during November, due to track re-laying on Eardington bank.
3. A number comments were made on the external state of Bridgnorth buffet. It's fine inside, but the external appearance does us no favours. Nick Ralls (GM) stated that major redevelopments were being planned for Bridgnorth, which would include a purpose-built buffet. It was suggested that the redevelopment could perhaps be the subject of a share issue - though, as always, donations to the station fund are welcome.
4. Train lengths also came in for some discussion, as the school holidays had resulted in some trains becoming uncomfortably full. It was noted that there had been some delay in bringing sets up to full strength (8), a task made harder by the non-availability of three coaches for maintenance. More than 8 is much harder, as longer trains don't fit in Hampton Loade loop.
5. Back to the money. All departments are being asked to economise as much as possible so that we can continue to do essential work. Everyone can help.
PLEASE
turn off lights in empty rooms
report water leaks
don't waste materials - paint, paper, wood, coal, water
And suggestions are welcome for ways to reduce cost and increase income!
